Intern Projects

During the fall semester UNI Graphic Technology student Samantha Schilmoeller completed an internship in the Grout Museum District. She worked with Korean War veteran Cliff Strovers to create an exhibit based on his post-war photographs of Korea. Cliff was part of an engineering battalion helping to rebuild Korea after the war, in his spare time he took photographs of the people and the country-side.  Samantha assisted with a video interview of Cliff, helped select and prepared the photos for the exhibit, wrote text and labels, created title board and sponsor board plus two display boards and organized her work on disks and in a notebook for final exhibit set-up. The exhibit titled “1954 Korea, After the Korean War: Photographs by Cliff Strovers” will open November 5, 2013.
Maddie Morehouse, a senior Business Administration and History double-major at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, interned at Brucemore throughout the fall semester of 2015. She assisted with cataloging photographs from the Sinclair family who was responsible for building Brucemore in 1884; creating membership and development pieces; and coordinating the Night at the Museum series. This program won the Reaching Out award from the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance for collaborating with the African American Museum of Iowa, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, Coe College, and National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library to offer college students free opportunities to explore the various community organizations.
Callie Morningstar, a Communication Studies and Public Relations major at Coe College, coordinated and executed Brucemore’s Santa, Snacks, and Stories event. Over 570 children and adults enjoyed the spirit of the holiday season by participating in a variety of activities on the historic 26-acre estate, including visiting Santa in the Mansion, listening to a story in the Nursery, and enjoying caroling in the Carriage House.
