NonProfit Strategic Planning - The Essentials

Description:  We know that the leaders of museums and historical organizations, like all nonprofit leaders, are passionate about their work and those they serve.  They also face challenges such as limited resources, competition for talent, disengaged board members or staff, possible duplication of service offerings, and a shifting operating context.

In this workshop, you will learn how an effective strategic planning process helps you clarify strategic issues and creates a clear, implementable plan to address these pinch points and accomplish your mission.  Strategic planning can build your organizational capacity and foster the strategic thinking skills of your leadership and staff.  A solid strategic plan is a must to earn the confidence of potential supporters, win grants, and attract quality leadership and staff.  Additionally, strategic plans are usually expected or required by your membership organizations such as the American Alliance of Museums and the Iowa Museum Association.

This workshop will equip you to assess your strategic planning needs and show you what an effective planning process can do for your organization.

Speaker: Fred Darbonne, Principal, Strategy By Design.  Fred Darbonne, founder of Strategy By Design, engages nonprofit organizations in strategic planning and organizational development to identify strategic issues, develop organizational capacity, and create a desired, sustainable future. He is a consultant member of the Iowa Museum Association.  Fred strives to exceed the industry standards for strategy excellence set by professional groups such as the Association for Strategic Planning and the Malcolm Baldridge Criteria for Performance Excellence.
